Stadler wins tender from Lokaltog – 14 new battery trains on the way

Following a competitive tender involving three of the world’s leading train manufacturers – the Spanish Construcciones Y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) S.A., the Danish Siemens Mobility A/S, and the Swiss Stadler Bussnang AG – Lokaltog has selected Stadler as the supplier of 14 new battery trains, with an option to procure an additional ten.

The new battery trains will operate on Lokaltog’s lines in Region Zealand and represent a significant step toward more sustainable public transport in the region.

Stadler Bussnang AG brings extensive experience in producing high-tech trains for the European market. With more than 2,000 electric trains and over 400 battery trains already manufactured – the first of which are already in operation in Germany – Stadler is a strong and highly experienced partner.

At Lokaltog, we are very pleased to have found a supplier for our new battery trains. These new trains will replace our IC2 fleet, which has served us well since 1997. Stadler’s proposal was marginally better than that of CAF. We are now purchasing the trains of the future, which we hope will run on our tracks for many years to come and bring great satisfaction to our passengers,” says Lars Wrist-Elkjær, CEO of Lokaltog.

FORTEM partnered with Stadler during the bidding phase

At FORTEM, we are proud to have played a key role in Stadler’s success in the tender process. Our team worked closely with Stadler throughout the entire bidding phase, providing extensive quality assurance. The team ensured that all technical and legal aspects were thoroughly reviewed and fully compliant.

This meticulous approach enabled Stadler to submit a competitive and fully compliant bid that met all of Lokaltog’s requirements – ultimately securing victory in this pivotal procurement process.

If everything proceeds according to plan, the new battery trains are expected to enter service by the end of 2026.
